Course Description

This course is intended to provide information and experience in the art of web site design. Topics covered include Web vocabulary, HTML5,  CSS, Design, and preparation of graphics and text for World Wide Web publication. Discussion of color, proportion, Typography, and page layout. Producing and publishing Web sites using HTML and web design programs.

  • Textbook: HTML & CSS: Design and Build Websites, Jon Duckett, ISBN:978-1-118-00818-8
  • Flash Drive
  • Sketch book and drawing pencils.
  • A Text Editor or Dreamweaver

Course Competencies

Define terminology commonly used in the Web design process.

  • Describe hardware, software, and online information gathering process.
  • Use the HTML language.
  • Use Web design/editing software
  • Produce graphics for optimum Web publication.
  • Format text for Web publication
  • Create links and rollovers.
  • Produce Web pages by applying appropriate design, color, art and content
  • Produce an interactive multimedia page for publication on the Web, using art elements, animation, and sound appropriately.

We will also focus on:

  • Critical Thinking: you will be assimilating skills, learned through demonstrations and book exercises, to solve design problems and create original work
  • Oral Presentation: you will be presenting your work to the class, discussing methodology, and referencing design concepts
