Tutorial and Project Schedule
- 1/23: Introduction/Overview/Planning/XHTML, CSS, & Dreamweaver Basics HW: Buy book, Flash Drive, Review Chapter 1, Complete Hands-on Practices 2.1 - 2.10 & 3.2-3.8. DO NOT PANIC... it's easy, baby!
- 1/30: Review of reading and Hands-on- Practices So Far / Fonts / Markup / Newspaper Exercizes / Web graphics / Optimizing HW: Complete Hands-On Practices 4.1-4.5, . Prepare an image for the web
- 2/06: Dreamweaver / Site management / file names / Image Maps / Layout in CSS HW: Complete Hands-On Practices 6.1-6.5, Design a home page for a website in photoshop (some other graphic program).
- 2/13: Design your own web page based on the supplied info, then create it in XHTML & CSS based on this criteria. Work on / finish site. DUE at 8PM 3/5 HW: Read Chapter 8 and Chapter 10
- 2/20: NO CLASS
- 2/27: WORK on SITE! Discuss email links, recaptcha, tables = evil, and pseudo-classes (LoVe HAte). HW: Read Chapter 11, Chapter 12 AND Develop Criteria for Your Personal Site
- 3/05: Turn in your sites! Site critiques, Chapter 11: Rollovers, Discuss Proposals HW: Read Chapter 14 Write the proposal for your site (Midterm Project)
- 3/12: SPRING BREAK...
- 3/19: Work on Midterm Project: Organize and design site from given elements
- 3/26: Work on midterm.
- 4/02: Turn in Midterm. Site critiques! HW: Begin Final Project Proposal
- 4/09: Work on Final.
- 4/16: Work on Final.

- 4/30 Work on Final Project PROJECT DUE AT 8:00 IN NEXT CLASS!

Course Description
This course is intended to provide information and experience in the art of web site design. Topics covered include Web vocabulary, HTML, XHTML, CSS, linking, and preparation of graphics and text for World Wide Web publication. Discussion of color, proportion, and page layout. Producing and publishing Web sites using HTML and web design programs.
Prerequisites or Corequisites
ART 100 or permission of the instructor.

Course Competencies
Define terminology commonly used in the Web design process.
- Describe hardware, software, and online information gathering process.
- Use the HTML language.
- Use Web design/editing software.
- Produce graphics for optimum Web publication.
- Format text for Web publication.
- Create links and rollovers.
- Produce Web pages by applying appropriate design, color, art and content.
- Produce an interactive multimedia page for publication on the Web, using art elements, animation, and sound appropriately.
Grading
Each student will be evaluated by:
- Attendance and Participation in all activities, presentations, demonstrations & critiques. Your presence in class is essential to understanding the course material.
- Completion of reading and writing assignments.
- Application of ideas presented in the course to activities in class and class original assignments.
- Submission of assigned projects in a digital portfolio (projects will be graded on creativity and application of technical and artistic concepts).
